Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance had his interview at the Johannesburg consulate this morning and was granted our K1 visa! After 9 months of waiting, we finally have it! We are very thankful to the Lord for His guidance and mercy. Here is my fiance's experience as he relayed it to me:

He arrived at the consulate at 8:15am for a 9:00am appointment. He stood in the first queue for about 45 minutes. He showed his passport, appointment letter, receipt for bank deposit and DS-156 form and was then given a number to proceed to the security checkpoint queue. He stayed in that line for about 10 minutes at which point they took his medical envelope from him to keep for the case worker. He was told to go to window 7/8 and wait for his number to be called. After waiting an hour and a half, he was called to the window and was asked to present all the same documents as before along with the police certificates, birth certificates, I-134 and my last year's tax return, DS-156 and DS-157. He then was told to ... read complete review

Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiancée interview was scheduled on Feb 14 2008 and My fiancée and I went to the Consulate on Feb 11 2008 for letting them know that I am in town. On Feb 11 2008 we did our medicals. The medicals took us more than R1500 because she had to take the vaccinations. The vaccinations are costly. You need to have been tested for chicken pu...(I can't not spell it)to avoid the vaccination. On Feb 13 we went to the Dr. M. Singer's office to collect our results and everything was great. On Feb 14 2008, we got at the consulate at 7:30 AM. We found a line has already been formed. There were about 11 individuals in front of us. We got in the consulate about 8:00 AM, and we waited for hour. Our case worker waived us in the other side of the window. They don't call names, you need to keep looking at the window to see if your case worker is in there. There were about 3 individuals came for immigrant visa. We all were at the windows 7 and 8. These windows are for immigrant visa only. At 10 minutes ... read complete review

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My interview went really well, except an issue with the police clearance not being valid (totally not my fault, the consulate had changed the rules AFTER i checked in with them about the validity).

On the day of my interview, I waited about 10 mins for my case worker to call me up. She was very friendly and said she would try everything to get me there in time for Christmas. I sat down after she had been through everything in my file and waited for the officer to interview me.

It was another 30 mins before the officer called me over the intercom. She was also very friendly and put me at ease very quickly. After being sworn in, she asked me some VERY basic questions - how did we meet? what happened next? how long did he stay over here for? where did we get married? what did he do for a living? where were we going to live in the USA? She then asked if i had any photographs with me. I showed her my wedding album and some pics of when my husband wa... read complete review

Entrance to the Consulate is via a side door in wall directly opposite the Killarney Mall.
I got there at 7.30 for my 9.00am appointment. there were already queues there. Takes quite a while to get in as you are in the same queue as the ordinary visa four tourist and business visa's.
Next to the door is a window where you have to hand the person behind the counter your passport, appointment letter, visa photo and the FNB deposit slip for the $100 for the visa. I received a different number from the other people and was told to go to counter 7 when I entered and press the bell.
Then you go through security and they put all the docs etc thru the machine and you leave your cell phone with them. Then you are scanned as well with a hand held scanner.
I went to counter 7 the blind was down so I rang the bell and waited. After a while the blind went up and there was my case worker.
He asked me for appointment letter and FNB slip.
He went off somewh... read complete review
